To the New Weezer Video
Dear New Weezer Video,
Wow. You amaze me. All this time I thought I’d wasted hours and hours of my life watching Numa Numa and Chris Crocker and all the rest of it. No! It was all preparation for the “Pork and Beans” music video!
All the in-jokes and the references! The Mentos! The Mentos, for crying out loud! You even had exploding bottles of cola! Sometimes, Weezer, I think you may be too smart for your own good.
But listen, Video, as hip as I like to think I am, I have to confess: I didn’t actually get all of the references. Like Tay Zonday? Never heard of him. But naturally, after your video, I had to look him up. Then, Soulja Boy. Then, 155 t-shirts. Man, at the end of it, you made me waste more time watching viral YouTube videos than I ever had before.
But here’s the real question: Were Chris Crocker and Tay Zonday and all the rest of them just waiting by the phone for your call? I mean, they’re viral video stars now! They’re all over the Internet! They’re big time! Weren’t they busy dining with their agents at the Ivy or something?
No?? What do you mean, no? You mean, just because you’re hilariously snarky and tap into the zeitgeist somehow, the doors of opportunity don’t immediately swing open and make you an overnight success? Man, Weezer, I love you - but I think I just realized I’m wasting my time.

I’d have to agree with woot. Weezer’s done, and this video is proof. They’re just sadly grasping at straws for relevancy at this point.

I don’t like Weezer that much (never have), but this video is awesome. I totally enjoyed it. I love that groundhog… or whatever kind of rodent it is.
