Dear LOLManuscripts,
We were mostly over LOLAnything around here. Cats was one thing, and it was fun while it lasted, but copycats (copylolcats?) followed. Then, there were the LOLHorses and LOLGeeks and LOLEggplants, for all we know. We just felt like telling every kid with Photoshop and too much time on his hands: “Could you learn how to spell, please? Okay, thanks, bye.”
But then you come along with your early modern woodcut illustrations, and I’m in love all over again. See, the thing is, cats are already funny. Are you kidding me? I could watch slide shows of cats for days. I don’t need you to scrawl your grade school illiteracy over them to make them any funnier. Cats will do fine without you.
But all the memes that followed were worse. Kids would swipe photos of George Bush, write “OH NOES!!1!” and be done with it. That’s not comedy, that’s laziness.
But woodcut illustrations? Nobody has ever cared about early printing production. It’s boring. No one would ever find it remotely interesting or amusing - until now. Pilgrims in full costume asking, “Where’s the party at?” Genius.
Congratulations, LOLManuscripts, you’ve reignited my love for LOLEverything, and the world’s love for old-timey manuscripts. Great job. KTHXBAI!!1!
