To “Hot Tranny Mess”
Dear “Hot Tranny Mess,”
The Saturday Night Live sketch with Amy Poehler doing a an impression of Project Runway Season 4 winner Christian Siriano has single handedly revolutionized my vocabulary. No longer will I refer to ugly people/clothes using adjectives such as “fugly,” “unfortunate,” “beat,” or “heinous.” From this point on, I shall insert “hot tranny mess” as my description for anything or anyone that is not “fierce.”
I feel that pop culture catch phrases are important to society, especially the men and women in my age bracket (18-25). Did you see Juno? Proof positive that we effing LOVE pop culture phrases. In fact, I’m pretty sure we cannot function as stereotypical young adults and/or college students without them. A large part of what makes us so unbelievably obnoxious is our unusual attachment to viral photos, articles, celebrities, and what those celebrities say. We like to repeatedly quote pop culture until it is dead… and then perhaps quote it some more in a few months with an air of nostalgia.
For example:
“Basically I feel like one big hot tranny mess today. Yesterday I felt fierce in my boots, which was, a whole lotta outfit. My face is a hot mess. I had no time to shower this morning, so now I look like a tranny. I’m worried. But, I suppose I will just make it work.”
If I had not seen that brilliant viral sketch about one of many favorite Bravo reality shows, I don’t know if I could really even express how I felt this morning. Thank god I could; it’s ferocity at its fiercest.

You mistake the 18-25 age bracket with “society”. Don’t assume that real society can’t function just because your vocabulary is so limited that you need to resort to pop culture catch phrases to communicate. Don’t worry, though. One day you’ll grow up, learn to talk and join that part of society that gets things done.
