To HBO Regarding Bill Maher


Dear HBO,
 

Please don’t fire Bill Maher. He’s funny and we like him.
 

Besides, his joke about Catholics was tame compared that other joke from a while ago about our military. Since you let him slide for that joke, you should let him slide for this one too. Otherwise, it just exposes your connection to the worldwide Vatican conspiracy, you know what I mean?
 

Kind of funny that so many people are calling for “religious tolerance” when they never said anything about Maher’s previous jokes about Muslims, huh? Isn’t there a poem or prayer or something that goes, “When they came for Muslims, I didn’t say anything because I’m a Catholic, but when they came for Bill Maher” - wait, no. Anyway, you get my point.
 

And just to be clear, HBO, I’m defending Maher, but I also kind of like Pope Benedict (or Benny, as we like to call him around here). He’s always been against the Iraq War, which is cool. He also kind of sounds like a vampire, which is hilarious. And we totally don’t even care about his stint in the Hitler Youth - I mean, who didn’t have youthful follies with white supremacist groups, you know? Heck, most of us were born skinheads.
 

In fact, we have the sneaky suspicion that the Pope can relate to Bill Maher’s situation. A silly one-liner that takes a jab at a religious organization and gets taken out of context and sensationalized in the media - the Pope knows all about that! In fact, instead of firing Bill Maher, HBO, maybe you should just organize a dinner with him and the Pope? I bet Benny is a sparkling dinner conversationalist, although, God knows, Maher could help him with his delivery.

    I am laughing as I type thanks to this sentence: “When they came for Muslims, I didn’t say anything because I’m a Catholic, but when they came for Bill Maher” - wait, no. Anyway, you get my point.

    I met him once at a Hell House after-party in Los Angeles. He’s awesome!

    Let him slide, HBO! This is what he does for a living after all.

    ugh. I personally cannot stand Bill Maher. I hate it how he always laughs at his own jokes during his monologue.
