To 90 Day Jane

Dear 90 Day Jane,

So you thought you would threaten suicide on the interwebz, and blog the last 90 days of your life, and no one would notice, because the Internet is so alienating, and it would be this great piece of art to show just how alienating the Internet is. But then, everyone did notice, so it turned out the Internet isn’t alienating at all, so you took down your blog, because you don’t want to be wrong. The end.

Or wait, no, you made the blog to express personal discovery and truth. And then it taught you much more about personal discovery and truth than you ever could have imagined. But then the blog didn’t teach the things about personal discovery and truth you wanted it to teach in the first place, and you don’t want other people to learn these new things about personal discovery and truth, so you took it down. The end.

No? Okay, how about this: Your writing and videos came from a place of truth. But it was just a “character” right? And you could relate to her rage and isolation. So you posted it on the Internet, and you got a lot of heartfelt emails, so you changed your mind about suicide, and you felt embarrassed about your cry for help. The end.

Hey, Jane, if you really regret your mistake and want to be accountable for your actions, you’d leave your site up and reveal your identity. Then, you would be admitting responsibility for your actions and allowing the rest of the world to learn from your actions as well.

Instead, you killed Jane. The end.
